Tecno has officially unveiled its first clamshell foldable smartphone, the Phantom V Flip. This innovative device features a circular external OLED screen with two cameras and an LED flash arranged in a ring around it. On the inside, users will find a spacious 6.9-inch foldable LTPO AMOLED display.
Under the hood, the Phantom V Flip is powered by a Mediatek Dimensity 8050 chipset, equipped with an octa-core CPU that can reach speeds of up to 3.0 GHz. It comes with 256 GB of internal storage and 8 GB of RAM, and users can expand the memory by up to an additional 8 GB through the Extended Memory software feature.
The foldable panel boasts a 22:9 aspect ratio, supports a smooth 120 Hz refresh rate, and reaches an impressive 1,000 nits of brightness. Additionally, there’s a convenient 1.32-inch external display that offers various widgets, handles notifications, and can serve as a quick information hub.
In the camera department, the Phantom V Flip is well-equipped with a 64 MP main camera featuring a 1/1.73” sensor and an f/1.7 aperture lens, complemented by PDAF for fast and accurate focusing. The device also sports a 13 MP ultra-wide-angle shooter with autofocus. When the phone is unfolded, you’ll find a 32 MP front-facing camera housed within a punch hole.
Despite its foldable design, the device remains impressively thin, measuring under 7 mm thick when unfolded and standing at 171 mm tall. Tecno has managed to fit a substantial 4,000 mAh battery into the device, utilizing a two-cell solution. The phone supports 45W wired charging, and Tecno claims that just 15 minutes of charging can fill the battery halfway.
One unique feature of the Tecno Phantom V Flip is its custom personal assistant called EllaGPT, which offers intelligent features and aims to compete with popular digital assistants like Google Assistant, Siri, Bixby, or Celia.
The device is available in two stylish colors – Black and Purple. During the announcement, Tecno revealed a price tag of INR 49,999, which translates to approximately $605 or €555. For European markets, the expected price is €700, while other regions may offer early-bird promotional prices around $650.
Tecno’s foray into the foldable smartphone market with the Phantom V Flip certainly offers an intriguing blend of design, performance, and features, making it a noteworthy addition to the world of mobile technology.
